THE TELFORD
SLEEP OUT

Madeley Cricket Club - Fri 9th Oct 2026

Will you brave a night outdoors with us, waking up together on World Homeless Day?

Join us at Madeley Cricket Club for a fun filled evening, a bit of a reality check and to see what life is like for some of the people we support. Wrap up warm and bring along things to make yourself a snug set up for the night.

If you're a youth group you can 'Sleep Out Your Way'!

We'd love schools, scouts, guides, kids sports teams etc to join in too! Your U18 youth group can support the sleep out your way, at your club or venue.

Help us to...

Raise awareness of the seen and unseen homeless and raise vital funds to provide people with the support they need and a safe place to call home.

Let's wake up together on Sat 10th Oct when people around the world will also celebrate World Homeless Day & World Mental Health Day.

With your help, we can make the The Telford Sleep Out on Friday 9th October 2026 a huge success and make a real difference to vulnerable people across Telford & Wrekin.

Thank you!

EVENT SPONSOR - MYWORKWEAR

Celebrating 50 years in business providing customised, branded & personalised workwear.

"We’re incredibly proud to be sponsoring this year’s Telford Sleep Out. As a business with strong local roots, supporting our community has always been at the heart of what we do, and homelessness is an issue that can’t be ignored. This year is especially meaningful for us as we celebrate our 50th birthday. It’s given us the opportunity to reflect on our journey so far and ensure we’re giving something back to the community that has supported us for half a century. Working with Stay & KiP on such an important initiative feels like a fitting way to mark the milestone, by helping raise both awareness and vital support for those experiencing homelessness locally." said James Worthington, Co-Owner.

FAQs

  • What happens if I don’t hit the fundraising target?

Don’t worry, just do the best you can. Please know how important your fundraising is to our work, the money you raise by taking part in The Telford Sleep Out is vital to ensuring that we can continue supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Telford & Wrekin to leave homelessness behind for good.

  • Can I bring my sponsorship money on the night?

We'd prefer you not do that for security reasons. When you register for the event, you'll be invited to open your fundraising page on Just Giving, where you can open an individual page or a team page. A JustGiving page is the easiest and safest way to raise money and get it to us. If you have cash donations, we’d prefer you add them to your JustGiving account or if that's not possible, please visit the Donate page where you will find an address to drop off.

  • What do I need to bring?

You will need a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat and ground sheet or tarpaulin as you'll be sleeping on the pitch. Bring lots of layers of warm clothes, warm hat, gloves, thick socks, a torch and waterproof clothing is always a good idea with the great British weather. And of course, cardboard to build your shelter and lots of items to decorate your sleep out home for the night! There is a prize for the best sleep set up. You can bring a one or two person pop up style tent (maximum pitched size H110, W150, L220cm) if you’d like to. You will not be able to bring alcohol, stove, firepit, naked flame candles or outside music, out of respect for fellow participants.

  • Will I be able to buy food or drinks on the night?

There are no food or drink vendors so please do bring snacks and drinks to keep you going. There will be a tea/coffee/refreshments/snacks area which is free for you and we have kind supporters dropping off treats for you too. You are not permitted to bring in alcohol, however you are welcome to visit the cricket club bar which is open to the public till 11.30pm, please bring card/cash if you'd like to use it.

  • Are there age restrictions?

Participants in the The Telford Sleep Out at Madeley Cricket Club must be either over 18yrs old, or if under 18yrs must be accompanied by their participating parent/legal guardian and the minimum age to participate is 12 yrs.

  • What happens if the weather is bad?

We will only cancel the event if there is a severe weather warning in the week of the event. We will notify you via your contact details given to us at registration.

  • I don't want to sleep outdoors, can I still join in?

Yes of course! Many people that experience homelessness do so ‘unseen'. They may have a roof over their head but necessarily a home. It may be temporary accommodation that they share with others, without home comforts like a TV. Push the sofas back and sleep on the floor in your lounge. We’d love it if you could raise awareness of the people that experience 'hidden homelessness', as well as those that are more visible, rough sleeping. Share your experience with us on socials @thetelfordsleepout #thetelfordsleepout and show support for those sleeping out.

  • Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to bring any pets with you unless they are an assistance dog. If you require an assistance dog in attendance, please contact the event organiser at info@staytelford.co.uk

  • How well will I be able to sleep?

Sleep out events are a lot of fun, but not easy. It will be cold and possibly wet. Some of your fellow participants may find it difficult to sleep and will stay up chatting and may keep you awake. We will do our best to remind participants to be considerate of anyone trying to sleep.

  • What can I bring to make the The Telford Sleep Out more comfortable?

We would recommend that you bring lots of layers of warm clothes, waterproof clothing, a sleeping bag, a ground sheet, a bed roll and any medications you may need. Make sure your phone is fully charged so you can share your evening on socials and bring headphones/ earbuds, games/ books in case you cannot sleep. There is security lighting on all night so an eye mask would also be good.

  • Can I leave early if needed?

Of course, you’re free to leave whenever you like! Please let a member of The Telford Sleep Out team know if you are leaving early so we can make sure that we update our details of who is at the venue for safety purposes.

  • Is there parking?

There is plenty of parking available at the cricket club and if full, we'll direct you to options nearby.

  • Do I need to inform you of any medical conditions?

Yes, please do so when we contact you after booking to take more details from you. Ensure you are fit and healthy to take part, insurance does not include medical cover in the event of illness if participants are attending the sleepout contrary to medical advice and/or are not in good health.

  • Can I turn up on the night and join in?

Unfortunately not. Due to event security it is important we have a full list of participants and their details prior to the event. You can follow the night on socials @thetelfordsleepout #thetelfordsleepout plus you can show support or donate to those sleeping out.
